Garmin Approach S20 vs Callaway GPSy vs Bushnell Neo Ion2 Review: 2024 Updated

In this post, I’m going to be comparing the Garmin Approach S20 to the Callaway GPSy and the Bushnell Neo Ion 2. We’ll be talking about which one is right for you and also the cheapest place to pick them up.

Is the Garmin S20 better than the GPSy and Neo Ion 2? In short, we’d highly recommend getting some sort of yardage finder (laser, watch, handheld) because it’ll really help your game. Our least favorite was the Callaway GPSy and probably wouldn’t recommend it. The golf watch with the most courses, the most features, and the best price was the Garmin Approach S20.

If that’s all the info you were looking for then great. If you want a more detailed review of each and to know the best place to pick them up, continue reading…

✅ GARMIN APPROACH S20 vs CALLAWAY GPSy vs BUSHNELL NEO ION 2

The Callaway GPSy

This is an entry-level golf watch from Callaway that is currently priced at around $140.

It comes with over 30,000 worldwide courses and will show the distance to the front, center, and back of the green.

The watch will keep track of your score, tell you your distance, and will record greens in regulation.

Who Is The Callaway GPSy For?

In our opinion, the GPSy watch is fairly accurate but it’s not our favorite and that’s why we aren’t going to recommend it.

The Garmin S20 is the same price and it has more courses, more features, and a better battery.

Also, the band on the watch wasn’t the most comfortable and it actually started to break after a year.

The Garmin Approach S20

The S20 is Garmin’s entry-level golf watch and it is currently priced at around $140.

It comes loaded with over 40,000 worldwide courses and will show the distance to the front, center, and back of the green as well as hazards and doglegs.

It also has the Autoshot feature which will track your shots and record them in the app so you can go back after the round and see where your misses were.

Who Is The Garmin S20 For?

In our opinion, the S20 is one of the better watches for someone who’s tighter on a budget.

It’s not the most advanced watch out there but it’s as accurate as any, the battery life is great, and it shows you most of the distance data you’re looking for.

If you’re just getting started with golf I’d highly recommend a device like this and the S20 is a perfect option because it won’t break the bank.

The Bushnell Neo Ion 2

This is a little bit of a more expensive golf watch from Bushnell and is currently priced at around $190.

It comes loaded with over 36,000 courses from 36 different countries and will show the distance to the front, middle, and back of the green.

It’ll allow you to input 4 different hazards for each hole but this has to be done manually (which definitely kind of sucks).

Who Is The Neo Ion 2 For?

In our opinion, the Ion 2 is a pretty decent golf watch and is quite a bit better than the Callaway.

It’s got more courses, a better battery, and I found it to be a bit more comfortable.

That being said, we do prefer the Garmin S20 over the Neo Ion 2 because it’s cheaper, has a better app, and it has even more courses with an even better battery.

Pros Of These Golf Watches

  • They’re fairly reasonably priced.
  • They are just as accurate as any.
  • They’ll really help you pick the right club and dial in your distance control.

Cons Of These Golf Watches

  • I’m not the biggest fan of wearing watches while golfing (some are and you can always attach it to your bag).
  • You can’t see a full hole overview on the watch (only the green shape).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are courses in my area on it?

A. 80% of the courses in my area were on it. They’re always adding more as well (free updates).

Q. Is there any activity tracking features?

A. They come with basic activity tracking (steps, calories burned, sleep, etc).

Are These Golf GPS Watches Worth It?

Overall, we definitely recommend getting some sort of yardage finder (watch, handheld, laser) because it’s really helped improve my game.

These 3 options aren’t the most advanced watches but they offer all the basic features you’d need.

The Garmin S20 is our favorite on this list and is probably our favorite budget golf watch.

Hope you enjoyed it. Let me know if you have any questions!
