In this post, I’m going to be comparing the Garmin Approach X10 to the X40. We’ll be talking about which golf watch is right for you and also the cheapest place to pick them up.
Is the Garmin X40 really better than the X10? In short, we’d highly recommend you go with the Garmin X40 and is well worth saving up for. It’s not that much more money but it does come with a lot more features that you’ll find useful on the golf course (activity tracking, automatic shot tracking, apps, etc).
If that’s all the info you were looking for then great. If you want a more detailed review of each and to know the best place to pick them up, continue reading…

The Garmin Approach X10
This is an entry-level golf watch from Garmin that’s thinner than the Garmin S20 and is currently priced at around $165.
It comes with a touchscreen display and is loaded with over 41,000 courses from around the world.
Just like any other Garmin device, it’ll show you the distance to the front, middle, and back of the green as well as the distance to hazards and doglegs.
The Garmin Approach X40
This is a slightly upgraded version of the X10 and it is currently priced at around $220.
It has over 41,000 courses from around the world and will show you the same distance data (green/hazards).
One of the best features with these watches is that they’ll tell you how far you actually hit each club.
They’ll keep track of your score and will also show you the shape of the green.

Garmin Approach X10 Or X40?
In our opinion, if you’re tight on a budget we’d recommend waiting and saving up for the X40.
It’s more expensive but it does have more features.
The first is that the X40 has activity tracking (heart rate, steps, etc) which the X10 doesn’t.
The X40 will track your shots and display an overhead view in the app which the X10 doesn’t.
The X40 will also record how far you hit each club.
Pros Of These Golf Watches
- These are the most comfortable entry-level watches (in my opinion).
- These are extremely simple to set up and use.
- They are just as accurate as any other GPS watch.
Cons Of These Golf Watches
- The screen size is fairly small and not the best if you have poor eyesight.
- You can’t see an overhead color display of the hole.
- The battery life isn’t as good as some (2 full rounds).

Would I Recommend Something Else?
Overall, the Garmin X40 is one of my favorite beginner level golf watches and I’d highly recommend it.
I’d recommend you wait and save up rather than purchasing the X10 version.
If you want a watch with more advanced features we’d recommend the Garmin S60 but otherwise, we’d give the X40 a thumbs up.
