Swingyde Training Aid 2024: An HONEST Review

Don’t get sucked into the hype of another useless training aid. In this post, I’ll be reviewing the Swingyde training aid and talking about whether or not it’s worth getting.

Is the Swingyde worth picking up? It’s a pretty simple tool that’s not very expensive and does the job it was made to do. It’ll work on your wrist movement, tempo, and improve your lag. It’s improved my game but if you’re looking for a trainer that will work on other areas of your swing then there’s the IMPACT SNAP trainer.

If that’s all the info you were looking for then great. If you want a more detailed review or you want to find out where the cheapest place to get one is, then continue reading.

My First Impressions

I’ve been seeing these devices pretty much everywhere I go so I finally had to give in and try them out for myself.

All it is is a little piece of plastic that attachesto your club and is supposed to help with wrist movement and having the right amount of lag in your swing.

The price seemed a little high for a tiny piece of plastic ($30) but if it works it’ll make everything alright.

How Does It Work?

All you have to do is attach it to your grip (put it as close to your index finger as you can) and make sure it’s in line with the bottom groove on your face.

They also have an instructional DVD that comes with it that’ll show you exactly how to set it up.

When you take a swing the other end will cup your forearm when you’re in the right position and that will make sure you’re swinging on the right line.

SWINGYDE – TRAINING AID REVIEW

Build Quality

I did get both the original Swingyde and one of the fake ones out there and the original was much more durable and had more flex.

It’s still plastic and will break if you’re too hard on it but the fake one actually broke when I put in on my wedge which had a thicker grip.

If you’ll be super careful and want to spend a bit less the fake ones should be fine but I prefer the real deal.

How Does It Compare To Others?

There are other training aids on the market that do similar things (speed trap, lasers, etc) but the reason I like this is that it’s the easiest to use.

I really do like the speed trap for working on my swing plane but it’s not the best thing to use on a busy range or you’ll need a net and mat in your yard.

Compared to all the Swingyde alternatives I’d recommend going with the original.

Did It Improve My Game?

I’ve always struggled with my wrist hinge and being able to stay on the right line and make good contact.

I really like this device and always use it before my round to hit 10-15 balls to really get dialed in.

It’s not the holy grail trainer but some of the pros use it and it’s really helped my followthrough (which most people wouldn’t think is that big of a deal).

Pros

  • It can be used on drivers, fairway woods, and irons (it’s not very convenient to switch though).
  • It’ll help you not swing too far back and stay on plane.
  • It’ll help if you hit the face too open or closed.

Cons

  • The price isn’t terrible but you’re getting a $2 piece of plastic.
  • It’s not the easiest thing to get set up properly (has to be the right distance away and at the right angle).

The Breakdown

  • Performance Score: 9
  • Price Score: 9
  • Quality Score: 7
  • My Personal Score: 8

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can it be used for both left and right-handers?

A. Yes.

Q. Can you use it with woods and drivers?

A. Yes.

Q. How long until you get results?

A. I started getting results after 10 swings but it helps the most when my swing feels out of whack.

Should You Get It?

Even though I have one myself and do really like it, it’s only going to work on a few parts of your swing. If you want to spend a bit more money on something that does a bit more I’d probably recommend the IMPACT SNAP trainer.

The Swingyde is inexpensive but it only works on a few aspects of your swing while the SNAP works on even more.

It’s more money (less than lessons) but if you’re serious about improving your game I think it’ll help a lot.
