Today, we’re going to be reviewing the Taylormade Spider putter and I’ll be sharing my honest thoughts after testing out the club. I’ve been in the market for a new putter and the Spider was near the top of my list for ones to try. I haven’t always been the biggest fan of Taylormade clubs, so how did I like the Spider?
Long story short, I really liked the Taylormade Spider putter because it suited my putting stance pretty well. I have a bit of a bent-over stance (or arc) and I found this putter to be super comfortable. It was a lot more forgiving than some of the other putters I’ve tested and it had a soft and silent feel to it. The final thing I liked about it was the great distance control. I noticed a big improvement in my consistency which was a big plus. I’m not saying it’s perfect or anything like that because it’s not (it’s pricey and not the best alignment aid), but it’s been one of my favorites so far.
If that’s all you were looking for then great. But if you want a more detailed review, be sure to watch the full video or check out the blog post below!

Taylormade Spider First Impressions
I was curious to test this putter out because a lot of the pros are using it, which clearly shows there’s something good about it. Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, and Sergio Garcia have all used the Spider.
Compared to other models, the head size was somewhere in the middle, which I really liked about it. I’ve found some to be way too small, and others were way too big and bulky. Definitely, a thumbs up for the look and feel.
I had never used the longer 2-ball putter before and it’s actually the one I liked the best. It comes in a few different shapes, so you’ll be able to pick your preference.
That’s great and all, but how did it perform…
How Did The Putter Perform?
The first thing I really noticed was how stable it was on shorter putts. I’ve always struggled a bit on the short ones, but for whatever reason, I felt a lot more comfortable with the Spider. Apparently, it’s because of the heel and toe weights, but who knows (I don’t really care, as long as it works).
I’m pretty picky when it comes to the sound and feel of my clubs. I found a lot of putters to be either too hard or too soft at impact. The ball would either bounce right off or have no feel to it. The second thing I liked about the Spider was that it had a lot of feel at impact and sounded really good.
The final thing I liked about this putter was that, for whatever reason, my distance control was a lot better. I’ve always had pretty decent control with my distance, but it was even better after switching to the 2-ball Spider putter.
Some other features that were pretty cool were that it had its weight distributed around the perimeter of the club and that’s done to improve the forgiveness (which I’m pretty sure worked). It also has something called Pure Roll Technology and that’s designed to reduce backspin.
Overall, I was super impressed with the performance. Here’s a demo video:
Who It’s Best For/Not For?
The first thing I would say is that this putter isn’t for someone who’s tight on a budget. It’s one of the more expensive options out there and should only be purchased if you golf a lot.
The next thing I’d say is that it’s probably best for someone who doesn’t need much alignment help when they’re putting. If you heavily rely on the alignment line a lot of putters have, I’d probably go with a different model. That’s just my opinion.
I have a bit of a bend (or arc) when I’m putting and this was one of the more comfortable putters I’ve tested. If you putt like that, you’d probably like it too.
Pros
- It has a nice compact shape.
- It’s one of the more forgiving putters I’ve tested.
- It has a nice sound and soft feel at impact.
- I found it great for distance control.
Cons
- It’s a bit pricey.
- I didn’t find it the easiest to align.
The Breakdown
- Performance score: 10
- Price score: 6
- Comfort & feel score: 10
- Personal score: 9
My Final Thoughts
Overall, I really liked this putter and would highly recommend it for anyone who golfs a lot and has the budget to spend on a top of the line putter. There are definitely cheaper options out there, but in my opinion, the benefits are worth it.
It was super comfortable to use and the performance was top-notch. The only downside to the thing was the price tag. Other than that, definitely a thumbs up from me.
