Taylormade M3 Irons Review – An HONEST Opinion

Long story short, if you’re a lower handicap golfer with a faster swing speed, I think the M3 irons could be a great fit for you. The M3 irons are thinner than the M1 and M4 irons which I definitely liked. I personally had better results (distance & consistency) with the M4 irons because my swing speed is slower, but the M3 was a lot better in terms of workability. I’m not saying the M4 is better than the M3, but it all depends on your skill level and swing speeds. Both are great clubs in my opinion, and I’d give them both a thumbs up.

Taylormade M3 First Impressions

If you’ve ever tried the Taylormade M1 irons, you probably know they’re not the easiest clubs to hit. I tested those out when they first came out and wasn’t the biggest fan. The only reason for that was how hard they were to hit…

I don’t have the fastest swing speed and the M1 was designed for the pros. With the new M3 irons, they’ve made them more for the masses, so I was super excited to give them another go.

They’re still designed for the low to mid handicap golfer with a faster swing speed, but they definitely are built with more forgiveness. Also, the top line and the sole are thinner than the M1, which was another thing I liked more about them.

The speed pocket on the bottom was more curved like the P790 irons and that was changed to give more distance when the ball was hit on the bottom of the face.

The new RIBCOR technology was designed to increase both distance and forgiveness, which would help out a lot of golfers who don’t always hit the sweet spot.

That’s good and all, but how did they perform…

How Did The Irons Perform?

Since I have a slower swing speed, I got better results with the M4 irons. I’m not saying the M4’s are better, but they just fit my swing more. A buddy of mine who’s a lower handicap got better results with the M3.

If you have a slower swing speed like myself, I’d probably go with the M4. But if you’re a better golfer and swing faster, the M3 might be a good fit for you.

I did have a lot better results with M3 compared to the M1. My distance was still a lot better than some other irons out there and the shots were more consistent. Definitely a good club though…

Who It’s Best For/Not For?

We touched on this already, but the M3 would be better for a low to mid handicap with slower swing speed. The M4 is for mid to high handicaps with slower swing speeds.

I also noticed the M3 was a lot easier to shape the ball around (draw/fade), so that’s another thing to note.

That’s just my opinion…

Pros

• Thinner and smaller than the M1 and M4.
• Produces less spin.
• It gives you more workability with the ball.
• It sounds and feels great at impact.

Cons

• They’re pretty expensive clubs.
• They have a bit less forgiveness than some other clubs.

My Final Thoughts

Overall, I did really like the M3 irons. They’re definitely a lot better than the previous M1, and I did get better results compared to some other irons out there. The only thing was that I got slightly better results with the M4 irons.

That’s just because of my swing, and you might be different, but that being said, I would give the M3 irons a big thumbs up if you’re someone who swings the club pretty quickly.
