In this post, I’m going to be reviewing the MGI Zip X5 electric golf cart and sharing my honest thoughts after testing it out on the course. It’s the middle of the range model and has quite a few advanced features, but that being said, how did it perform?
The MGI Zip X5 is a great middle of the range golf that offers a good mix of advanced features. Downhill speed control and the parking brake make it one of the better options in this price range.
The things we look at when testing a golf buggy is how much power it has, how long the battery lasts, and how durable the cart was. All those boxes were checked with the X5. If that’s all the info you needed then great, but continue reading if you want a more detailed review.

My First Impressions Of The X5
I was pretty interested in trying the X5 out after seeing the hefty price tag it comes with. It’s not the highest priced cart out there but it is more expensive than some of the other electric trolleys I’ve tried.
It was supposed to be about 25% smaller when folded and lighter (26 lb frame) as well compared to others only the market. This was a big plus for me and was one of the reasons I was interested in it.
It comes with a 24v lithium battery (most come with a 12v) and also comes in an 18 or 36 hole option (I don’t mind charging it after every round so I went with the 18 holes). Here’s a demo video:
How Was The Build Quality?
I’ve tried and tested quite a few of these electric pushcarts and I’ll definitely say that the X5 is built well. Some of the other carts I’ve looked at didn’t feel all that sturdy and almost felt like you’d break it if you dropped it. That wasn’t the case with the X5.
We haven’t had it for too long yet but it seems to be strong, sturdy, and something that’ll last for years (otherwise, there’s really no point in buying one).
The battery put out a good amount of power and lasted a full round no problem (you can upgrade to a 36 hole cart). The standard X5 wouldn’t be able to last 2 full rounds but it doesn’t take all that long to charge.
If you normally golf on courses with a lot of hills, this will be for you (the X5 is for hills while the MGI Zip X3 is for flatter courses). Now the most important question…
How Did It Perform?
It took a little bit of time to get fully used to the X5, but after a while, I was pretty impressed with it. All you can really ask for is that it gets up hills no problem and the battery lasts a full round.
I really like the downhill speed control, which slowed the cart down on hills. A lot of the courses in my area get pretty wet and slippery and this feature really helps out.
The electric parking brake was also cool and it stopped the cart on pretty much any hill. Some carts don’t have this and some of them actually don’t stop that well if you’re on a steep hill.
The front wheel can be locked or unlocked (which was super useful) and the wheels have held up nicely so far. Not all electric carts have this feature but it is something that can come in handy.

Pros
- The quality seems to be great and it was a lot more sturdy than other carts.
- It had plenty of power to get up any hill.
- After playing around with it for 30 minutes, I found it pretty simple and straightforward to set up and use.
Cons
- The price is pretty expensive (but there are still more expensive options).
- There is no remote but you can set a distance and it’ll follow and stop.

Is It Worth It?
Overall, if you’re in the market for an electric golf cart that has some advanced features and is built well, this could be the perfect option for you. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but it does its main job really well.

It’s a bit cheaper than some of the other carts on the market (middle of the range price) but I think the extra features could be worth it. We’ve had it for a short period of time, but from what we can see, it’s better than most of its competitors (in the same price range).
