Today, we’re going to be reviewing the Taylormade M3 fairway wood and I’ll be sharing my honest thoughts after taking some swings with it. One of my favorite clubs to hit are woods and some hit a lot better than others, so that being said, how did the M3 stack up to the rest?
Long story short, the M3 is made for a wider variety of players compared to the previous M1. In my opinion, it’s a lot easier to hit than before and it’s not just for pro players. It felt a lot more solid at impact than before and it has a lot of adjustments so you can tweak it to however you like. The distance was pretty solid, but I did get a bit better results with the M4. That’s because I have a slower swing speed and the M4 is designed more for that. Faster swings would benefit more from the M3. Overall, I really liked this wood and would give it a thumbs up.
If that’s all the info you were looking for then great. But if you want a more detailed review of the wood, be sure to watch the full video or blog post below!

Taylormade M3 First Impressions
The M3 is a new and improved version of the previous M1. It’s made for the better players (M4 for people like myself) with an adjustable sliding weight to tweak the club to your liking.
It’s got more of a round shape to it and the crown is thinner than before so more of the weight can be moved to the bottom of the club. The center of gravity has been moved forward and that’s designed to reduce the spin.
I’ve never really messed too much with the weights and adjustments on clubs (I found it never really made a difference for me) but I noticed right away that it actually impacted the shape of the ball. Moving the weight from neutral to fade to draw actually moved the ball about 10-15 yards left and right for me which was pretty interesting.
I ended up having a bit more distance when the weight was in the heel position. Not sure the science behind that but all I know is that it worked…
How Did The Wood Perform
The weight on the M3 is a little bit heavier, and that basically drops the center of gravity, increases the launch height, and reduces the spin. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the M1 wood, but I had a way more consistent shot with the M3, so I was glad to see they improved the club.
I also found the sound of the M3 to be a lot better than the M1 and it also felt a lot more solid at impact. The M1 and a lot of other drivers out there almost feel hollow at impact and I’m not the biggest fan of that.
The distance was really good as well and matched up to a lot of other drivers I’ve tested. Since my swing is a bit slower, I got better results with the M4 (but not by much).

M3 Or M4
I liked the M4 a bit more because it gave me a higher ball flight than the M3. The M3 is designed more for your low handicap golfers with a faster swing speed, while the M4 is the opposite.
The M3 will also produce less spin than the M4. Overall, I noticed the M4 had more forgiveness and a bit more distance than the M3 wood (with my experience).
Basically, if you’re a mid to high handicap I’d go with the M4. Otherwise, the M3 is a great option.
Pros
- It’s made for a variety of players.
- It has great adjustments to make it perfect for you.
- It feels and sounds a lot better through impact.
Cons
- It wouldn’t be the best club for mid to high handicaps with slower swing speeds.
- It’s not a cheap club.
The Breakdown
- Performance score: 9
- Price score: 7
- Comfort & feel score: 10
- Personal score: 9
My Final Thoughts
Overall, I really liked the M series fairway woods and would definitely recommend them. Which model you go with will depend on your skills, but I had great results with both of them.
The distance was up there with all my other favorite woods, the forgiveness was good on off-center hits, and it’s super adjustable. Taking all that into consideration, I’d give it a thumbs up.
