Taylormade M4 Irons Review – An HONEST Opinion

Long story short, these irons replaced the M2 series and they were definitely an improvement (in my opinion). I’ve tested quite a few irons over the past few weeks and the M4 are near the top of the list in terms of distance. I also found them to be super forgiving on off-center hits, which would benefit a lot of mid to high handicaps. If you’re a lower handicap with a higher swing speed I might consider the M3 irons, but for the majority of people reading this I would highly recommend the M4 irons.

Taylormade M4 First Impressions

I was pretty curious to test these irons because I wasn’t really a huge fan of the previous M2 irons. I didn’t dislike them or anything like that but I preferred different models a lot more. The M4 had some new features and improvements, so what did I think about them?

In terms of looks and feels they seemed pretty similar to the M2. The sound at impact wasn’t always the best, in my opinion. It almost had a bit of a hollow sound, but it didn’t seem to cause any performance issues.

Overall, first impressions weren’t anything crazy but what’s the most important is how they performed…

How Did They Perform?

The first big difference I noticed, compared to the M2, was the launch angle of the ball. It launched way higher than before (for whatever reason) and that was definitely a big confidence booster.

By having a higher launch angle the ball stays in the air longer and that gives more distance. It wasn’t a huge difference but I’ll take an extra yard or two any day of the week.

What I think also helped the distance was the fact they were more forgiving on off-center hits. Most mid to high handicap golfers have a hard time hitting the sweet spot and that causes big hooks, big slices, and big distance loss. So, I think by having a bigger face, the sweet spot is larger, and that adds more distance when you make contact too high, low, left, or right.

Overall, by having more distance and more forgiveness, I was super happy with the performance of the M4 irons.

Who Are They For/Not For?

I would say these clubs would benefit any mid to high handicap player who’s fine paying up for these irons (they aren’t cheap). They’re great for people like myself with slower swing speeds.

If you’re a lower handicap with a faster swing speed I’d probably recommend the M3 irons. They’d probably give better results in terms of distance and being able to work the ball around.

• The bigger face helps add forgiveness.

• They’re an expensive club.
• Sometimes it can feel a bit hollow at impact.

My Final Thoughts

Overall, I really liked these clubs. I’m a mid handicap golfer with a slower swing speed and these clubs gave me great distance and also helped a lot with off-center hits. If you’re the same way, I’d recommend you check these out.

They are a bit pricey, but if you’re someone who golfs a lot it’s probably worth picking up a top-notch iron set, and in my opinion, these could be a good fit for you.
