I\u2019ve been in the market for a new multisport watch that I could use on the golf course as well as the trail. Fenix 5 is one of the most popular and that\u2019s why I decided to pick it up and give it a try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fenix 5 is an awesome all-around sports watch that has a lot of cool features for a variety of sports. The steep price tag makes it only worthwhile if you\u2019re going to be using it a lot off the golf course for activities such as running, hiking, or swimming.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fenix 5 will give you about 80% of what you\u2019d need out on the course. All the basics will be covered but there are a few advanced features that won\u2019t be included. There are better golf-specific watches out there but they don\u2019t have all the additional features that the Fenix 5 does. ABOUT THIS VIDEO This is a multi-sport watch from Garmin that has 15 different sports apps. Some of them are golf, running, cycling, and swimming. The Fenix 5 has a lot of cool features but isn&#039;t the best golf watch on the market. The watch is built for someone who likes&nbsp;<strong>running, swimming, and hiking<\/strong>. I\u2019d only really recommend it if you\u2019ll be using for other sports as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since it\u2019s built for a range of outdoor activities, it\u2019s built a little bit more solidly compared to the golf or other multisport watches. That being said, it still has all the essential&nbsp;<strong>golf<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>features<\/strong>&nbsp;you\u2019d be looking for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Garmin Fenix 5&nbsp;Golf Features<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/outofboundsgolf.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/5_Blog-Post-Pic-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4630\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The features of this watch are similar to most of the top golf watches in that it shows the distance to the&nbsp;<strong>entire<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>green<\/strong>&nbsp;and also&nbsp;<strong>hazards<\/strong>&nbsp;on the course. You\u2019ll be able to see the distance to the front, middle, and back of the green and it\u2019ll show you the distance to bunkers, doglegs, and layup spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some watches will only show you the numbers while others will only show the green. What\u2019s nice about the Fenix 5 is that it gives you a bit more information out on the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also has the&nbsp;<strong>pin<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>placement<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>feature<\/strong>&nbsp;so you can drag the pin around to get a precise distance (this really helps with distance control). Knowing the exact yardage helped me a lot with picking the right club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lot of them will only tell you the distance to the front, middle, and back. That\u2019s good and all but if you have a big green it could be 10 yards or so off. It\u2019s still better than nothing but I think modern GPS should give you more info.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It comes loaded with over&nbsp;<strong>40,000<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>courses<\/strong>&nbsp;worldwide, it has the&nbsp;<strong>Autoshot<\/strong>&nbsp;feature, and it\u2019s compatible with&nbsp;<strong>Garmin<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>TruSwing&nbsp;<\/strong>(discontinued now). These features are pretty standard across all Garmin golf watches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the main courses in my area were on it and I\u2019m sure that should be the case for you as long as you live in North America or the UK. Everything seemed to be fairly accurate but it is a watch and it won\u2019t be 100% right all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also has full&nbsp;<strong>mapping and navigation<\/strong>&nbsp;built into the watch, as well as a compass, and an altimeter.&nbsp;I did end up using the navigation maps quite often and I think that\u2019s a feature most people would really like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Garmin Fenix 5 Design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/outofboundsgolf.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/6_Blog-Post-Pic-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4629\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>What I like about this watch is that it comes in&nbsp;<strong>42MM<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>47MM<\/strong>, or&nbsp;<strong>52MM<\/strong>&nbsp;(screen size is the same regardless).&nbsp;I prefer the smallest size myself but everyone will be different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The screen size is&nbsp;<strong>1.1 inches<\/strong>&nbsp;and comes in either glass or sapphire crystal (I went with glass). It seemed pretty durable to me but if you\u2019re someone who drops their stuff a lot, you might want to go with the crystal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also&nbsp;<strong>interchange<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>the<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>bands<\/strong>&nbsp;to find the one that\u2019s most comfortable for you.&nbsp;There are a bunch of different colors to pick from and you can attach a leather band if you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the downsides is that there are so many features so it&nbsp;<strong>takes quite a while<\/strong>&nbsp;to fully understand how to use the watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Garmin Fenix 5 Performance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the main thing that really matters and with the steep price tag, you\u2019d hope it\u2019s incredibly accurate.&nbsp;I\u2019ve found that most of the Garmin watches are all fairly accurate and good enough for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long story short, it was just as accurate as my favorite golf watch (<a href=\"https:\/\/outofboundsgolf.co\/golf-gps\/garmin-approach-s60\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Garmin S60<\/a>) and was always&nbsp;<strong>within 4-5 yards<\/strong>&nbsp;of the course markers. Not quite perfect but it\u2019s good enough for the average Joe golfer like myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since it\u2019s made for outdoor activities the reception was always&nbsp;<strong>super quick and reliable<\/strong>&nbsp;as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of battery life, this is one of the best and it lasted us about&nbsp;<strong>4 full rounds<\/strong>&nbsp;in GPS mode. Fenix 5 has 80% of what the S60 does but there are a few things that it doesn\u2019t come with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is The Fenix 5 Worth It?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, I\u2019d say the Fenix 5 is worth picking up&nbsp;<strong>ONLY<\/strong>&nbsp;if you\u2019re really into the outdoors and will use it for&nbsp;<strong>golf and other sports<\/strong>&nbsp;(hiking, running, swimming, etc).
